About
My fascination with hats emerged from my involvement as a stilt performer in the circus festival circuit. Collecting interesting vintage hats that invoked character became a pastime. This interest grew into study of millinery with Wayne Wichern, Jasmin Zorlu, and others. Ultimately Sky Millinery was formed and my sculptural handmade hats arrived at various shows and festivals.
My designs reflect my interest and curiosity in times past. I try and incorporate new twists to old styles and bring freshness to everything I make. Steam, wooden hat blocks, and hand manipulations assist in forming the sculptural shapes. The trim then is added with an eye for color, texture, and shape. Keeping my curiosity alive helps me better understand how the felt wants me to form it. The dialog between creator and medium is what keeps me engaged in the artistic process. I am constantly striving to find new ways to enrich and develop my designs and at times draw on my experience in gardening, dance, and performance art for inspiration.
I hope my hats bring a sense of wonder, beauty, and radiance to all who wear and admire them.
